What Makes a Computer?

Motherboard   A Motherboard is the main printed circuit board (PCB) found in general purpose microcomputers and other expandable systems. It holds and allows communication between many of the crucial electronic components of a system, such as the central processing. motherboardpicture
Central Processing Unit A CPU is the electronic circuitry within a computer that carries out the instructions of a computer program by performing the basic arithmetic, logical, control and input/output (I/O) operations specified by the instructions. cpupicture
RAM  A random-access memory device allows data items to be read or written in almost the same amount of time irrespective of the physical location of data inside the memory. ramchippicture
ROM Read-only memory (ROM) is a type of non-volatile memory used in computers and other electronic devices. Data stored in ROM can only be modified slowly, with difficulty, or not at all, so it is mainly used to store firmware (software that is closely tied to specific hardware, and unlikely to need frequent updates) or application software in plug-in cartridges. romchippicture
Inputs An input device is any hardware device that sends data to a computer, allowing you to interact with and control the computer. The most commonly used or primary input devices on a computer are the keyboard and mouse. inputdevicespicture
Outputs An output device is any device used to send data from a computer to another device or user. Most computer data output that is meant for us is in the form of audio or video. outputdevices
Storage A USB flash drive, is a data storage device that includes flash memory with an integrated USB interface. USB flash drives are typically removable and rewritable, and physically much smaller than an optical disc. Storage capacity as large as 2 TB are planned, with steady improvements in size and price per capacity expected. storagepicture
Case A computer case, also known as a computer chassis, tower, system unit, cabinet, base unit, or simply case, is the enclosure that contains most of the components of a computer (usually excluding the display, keyboard and mouse). casepicture
Power Supply A power supply is an electrical device that supplies electric power to an electrical load. The primary function of a power supply is to convert electric current from a source to the correct voltage, current, and frequency to power the load. As a result, power supplies are sometimes referred to as electric power converters. Some power supplies are separate standalone pieces of equipment, while others are built into the load appliances that they power. powersupplypicture
